What started with Hone Maxwell LLP building relationships across the border in Tijuana has grown into an international strategy now spanning Mexico, Asia, and beyond.
In a recent front-page feature, the San Diego Business Journal profiled Managing Partner Josh Maxwell and the international tax and business law firm’s continued expansion, including the opening of its Mexico City office in September. The article explores why HMLLP chose Mexico City as its latest international location, the lessons Josh has learned from establishing an on-the-ground presence in foreign markets, and where he sees opportunities for future growth.
For Josh, HMLLP’s growth strategy is rooted in relationships.
As he tells the Business Journal, having people in the communities HMLLP serves demonstrates the firm’s commitment to those markets and helps its attorneys better understand the cultures in which their clients live and do business.
“With two and a half years in Singapore, I’d really seen the advantage of having people on the ground. It makes you part of the community. They see that you’re here, you’re committed to this and you understand the culture,” Josh told the Business Journal.
The feature also looks at the growing demand for U.S. tax counsel among foreign businesses, investors, and families, including how U.S. tax laws can create opportunities for international businesses investing or moving profits into the U.S.
