For the second year in a row, the San Diego Business Journal named Hone Maxwell LLP Managing Partner Josh Maxwell to its Top 100 Leaders in Law list.
Josh uses both his background as a CPA and his experience as an international tax law attorney to “bridge the gap between accounting and law” for clients abroad and in the United States, the publication notes. Josh also earned recognition for guiding the San Diego-based firm to growth, including the opening of an office in Tijuana in 2022 and a planned expansion into Singapore in 2024.
“For more than 10 years, Maxwell has successfully guided foreign clients from afar by making frequent trips overseas and south of the border — not to mention via a plethora of phone calls,” the San Diego Business Journal wrote. “Under Maxwell’s leadership, the firm has been opening international offices, a massive undertaking. For a boutique firm like HMLLP, it takes scrappy dedication to realize and seize opportunities to build on and expand cross border relationships.”
Josh handles international tax and federal, state and local tax issues, including tax controversy defense. He advises clients on a wide variety of international tax issues including the remaining programs of the former Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program (OVDP), the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), tax treaties and IRS informational reporting.
