Managing Partner Josh Maxwell is a finalist for The Recorder’s Distinguished Leader Award. This distinction places him among a select group of legal leaders from some of California’s most prominent and established law firms.
Josh’s innovative law firm leadership over the past year landed him on the award’s shortlist. Of note, Josh implemented strategies to grow the boutique California-based law firm into a worldwide tax, business, and estate law powerhouse. This includes expanding HMLLP’s international footprint in Latin America through new Colombia and Miami presences and continued growth in Asia, where Josh earned foreign lawyer registration certification in Singapore. In addition, Josh formalized the firm’s Global Private Counsel service, which provides centralized oversight of tax, corporate, estate, and cross-border business matters.
Josh’s leadership centers on relationship-building across the map, strategic growth, and delivering integrated counsel to globally connected businesses, individuals, and families. Under his direction, the firm continues to expand its reach while maintaining a focus on high-touch client service and technical excellence.
The winners of this award and all the 2026 California Legal Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony hosted by The Recorder’s parent company, Law.com, in Los Angeles on June 24.
