HMLLP Team Discusses Foreign Expansion in Mexico

Foreign companies expanding into the U.S. face a variety of international tax audits and tax compliance issues, a team of Hone Maxwell LLP tax and business attorneys said during a recent presentation in Mexico.

Attorneys Josh Maxwell, Carolina Juarez and Claudia Ignacio participated in the Mexico-based National Association of Business Lawyers Bar Association’s (ANADE) Cross-Border Law Forum. Both Josh and Claudia are active members of the organization and the team was invited to speak about their experience with international tax and business issues. Given the increasing interest in international business expansions, several Mexican media outlets reported on their presentation.

Josh, who focuses on international tax law, said that the number of acquisitions and mergers are growing as a means for Mexican companies to expand into the U.S. However, there can be tax implications for doing so, he warned.

“It is important that companies merging or acquiring seek professional advice on tax and legal issues to ensure a smooth transition and comply with all applicable regulations,” Josh said, according to Uniradio Informa.

Other media outlets that reported on the presentation include Tijuana Informa and Ciudad Tijuana.
