2023: HMLLP Increases Focus in Mexico

By Managing Partner, Josh Maxwell

2023 starts two quests: A professional quest for Hone Maxwell LLP to become the premier firm for cross border tax, business, and legal needs and a personal quest to pay tribute to a country and culture that has given me so much — Mexico.

While Asia still holds a special place in my heart, and the region is an important piece of HMLLP’s future, and I’ll be spending more time in the Bay Area this year, after years of relationship building in Asia, it is time to broaden our strategic focus and include Mexico even more than before.

Mexico has given me so much personally and professionally.  The support from our clients and colleagues south of the border has allowed our firm to flourish and, personally, Mexico and its culture is a major part of my life.  Therefore, while this is the correct decision for business purposes, it is also important to me personally.

In 2022, HMLLP opened a new office in Tijuana, where I will be spending more time this year, in addition to more frequent visits to central Mexico.  I will spend more time at business and social organizations in Mexico where I am a member, and I will strive to take a more active role in the community.  I will forge stronger relationships with colleagues to provide more comprehensive service to our clients, and I will meet with our clients locally to learn more about their businesses and needs.  I will also push to improve my Spanish to give the respect to my friends in Mexico that they have shown me time and time again by always accommodating me as the only single-language speaker in the room.

With the addition of Partner Carolina Juarez to our team, a U.S. and Mexican licensed attorney with 20+ years corporate and business law experience in the U.S., we will be able to better work with professionals on the Mexican side and provide more comprehensive legal service.  While we will not practice Mexican law, we can now better oversee all legal needs on both sides of the border while coordinating with our strategic partners in Mexico

We are here. We are ready.  I have a beautiful office in Tijuana, my Sentri, and my Aeromexico frequent flier account.  What more do you need?  Estoy a tus órdenes.
